HARDWOOD FLOORING 101

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of installing hardwood?

Hardwood flooring is one of the longest lasting, most beautiful flooring options. Additionally, hardwood flooring is a popular option for future homeowners, making your home more valuable and easier to sell in the future. Finally, hardwood flooring is easier to clean and doesn’t trap dust, pollen, and other allergens. Whether you enjoy the fact that you won’t have to clean your floors as often or you want improved air quality, hardwood flooring is the perfect option.

How to Clean Hardwood Flooring Properly

Taking care of hardwood flooring can be difficult. You have to be careful of the chemicals you use to clean it because it could damage the wood. The first thing is to dust mop or vacuum to remove dirt, dust, pet hair, and debris that can scratch the flooring. Dust mopping alone won't get rid of all the dirt that has built up over time. To deep clean the hardwood flooring, you will want to use a liquid cleaner such as Bona or Murphy Oil Soap. Saturate a rag or sponge mop with the cleaning solution of your choice. Wring out the rag or sponge so that it is damp but not wet. Mop the floor with the cleaner, be careful not to put too much cleaner on the floor. Rinse the mop with water, wring out the excess water, and damp mop the floor to remove the cleaner. Wipe up the excess water with a clean, dry towel because standing water will damage your hardwood flooring.
